Hello, I'm Hazel, welcome to Pinay Working Mom! I'm a mother to four kids of ages 9 months, 4, 10 and 12 years. After my long hiatus on this website, I'm back with more family recipes, craft projects and stories from my everyday as a working mom, wife, and homemaker.
This blog started in 2008, when I found myself running my own household for the first time, and I realized I had no clue what I was doing. It didn't seem like there was one place I could go for all the information I needed, or at least there was none for moms in the Philippines. So I started blogging, hoping to get answers from the general Internetdom.
Well, that whole independence stint lasted about 10 months. I moved back in with my parents for various reasons, and thereafter spent most of my time working. That's how this blog went quiet for the last 6 years.
Then, in November 2013, life decided to give my family a major shake. Within literally a few hours, my hometown ceased to be as we knew it. In the aftermath, our children got displaced from the home and school they had known all their lives. My husband and I had to get everything and everyone together in our new home, in another city. With no extended family around, my work had to take the backseat this time. We were luckier than most, and for that we are grateful: we dared not complain about the change.
That's how I'm back on this blog, because the household concerns have returned! The familiar list includes old challenges like cooking healthy, keeping kids entertained, managing school run and work schedules, hiring house help, home cleaning and maintenance, grocery shopping, budgeting; then there are new ones like mortgage, moving, and most of all, the dynamics of now having four children! I like telling myself I've got a bit of a clue now, you know, fake it 'til you make it..? My old posts are gone because reading them made me cringe. Scratch that, I meant I feel they offered minimal usefulness. It's best to start over, yeah?
The all-new PinayWorkingMom.com is still an online journal, and then some. There will be lots to look forward to and we will start with the top challenges I listed above.
To begin with, I will be sharing weekly posts about feeding my picky eaters with healthy meals. Given the age range of my kids and the differences in their tastes, if it's a hit on our table, I'll be sure to share it with you. We mostly make our meals from scratch, and I hope that my recipes will work for you, too.
The other main thing here at Pinay Working Mom are activities for kids, mostly art projects (until my husband agrees to guest post on sports!). With the convenience offered by the Internet and its plethora of virtual games, I admit it takes effort to keep kids entertained in the real world. I'm determined to improve on this in our household, and I will share our progress with you.
So, after all these years, I haven't figured out the magic Super-Mom formula. I can't promise that I'll necessarily pursue it either. My hope is that my stories can make you (and I!) feel that our daily challenges are not unique, but that there are solutions, and we can enjoy being working moms.
Thanks for dropping by and I hope you find my posts useful. If you leave your email in the subscribe box, I'll be sure to let you know when I've got new stuff up. Please leave your comments, it would be great to hear from you!
